In response to deforestation driven by charcoal production and firewood collection, we conducted a community-focused climate action initiative in the Wairasa trading centre. the program targeted local youth, men, and women to foster environmental stewardship through direct tree planting and alternative energy training.

Key Achievements and Impact: Community Capacity Building: Successfully trained over 60 local participants(comprising of youth, men, and women) on eco-system protection and practical conservation strategies.

• Afforestation and Reforestation push: Educated the community on the principal of “Nurturing Nature”, advocating for planting significantly more trees than are havested for fuel.

• Alternative Enegy Adoption: Introduced green technology by demonstrating how to manufacture eco-friendly local fuel briquettes using readily available materials(cassava flour as a binder and clay)

Project Outcomes: Deforestation Reduction: Decreased community dependence on traditional charcoal burning and firewood cutting, directly reducing local tree loss.

• Waste and Cost Efficiency: Provide household fuel alternatives that utilise local materials, easing financial pressure on families while reducing environmental degradation.

• Inclusive Engagement: Empowered women and youth who are often the primary managers of household fuel to take an active leadership role in climate solutions.
