Medical camp in collaboration with Heart for People at Jinja North, Uganda

Number of Participants: 200 patients registered and seen by doctors, this includes Adults, children, and elderly.

Activity Objective

To provide free immediate treatment, health care access, medical consultations for those with hereditary diseases, detect untreated diseases early, and educate residents on disease prevention. To provide food stuff and clothes, and to also to give more information to all our partners and friends about SDG goals and the 2030 Agenda as originally communicated, and IPC Impact for the goals.

Summary of the Activity

Lugwara quarters is a community located in Wairasa sub-county, Mayuge District along the shores of Lake Victoria. It is a community known for severe abject poverty, jiggers, child labor, land grabbing, sugar-cane smuggling from sugar-cane farms nearby, robberies, poor hygiene and sanitation, poor water access, alcohol, drug abuse, school drop-outs, sexual molestation and harassments, cheap labor, no health-care, economic isolation, no schools, no basic needs, no financial institution available like banks etc.

This hardships have affected Lugwara quarters and this is what compelled us to come up with a comprehensive plan on how to engage this community starting with the help of the community leaders. Lugwara quarters is a community of more than 1500 occupants, and 450 home steads from different tribes. it is a community considered risky and hard to reach out to.

It is for this reason that together with a few other organizations we decide to reach out for a collaborative partnership so that we could reach more people as we conduct treatment within the community. in such communities, medical treatment is rare, do not exist, seeing a doctor, is almost a miracle for them, so when they see this opportunities they come in big numbers.

Cough and Flu, Severe Pneumonia, Malaria, Skin Infections, back pain, Diabetes, Cancer Scanning, Pregnancy scanning, HIV testing and Deworming.

Services Offered

Medical consultations and treatment, laboratory services, and Scanning.

Drugs most subscribed

Paracetamol, Amoxicillin, Ampiclox, and Diclofenac, among other essential drugs as per needs.

Key Outcomes

The key outcome is that the community gets treatment, gets food, gets clothes, gets educated and informed. it stays healthy and happy until on our next visit.

Challenges

We ran out of paracetamol, some people come for medication while drank, children as young as 7 years old were seen lining up to get treatment without their parents.
